Resignation of Colt Memorial High Principal Accepted

The School Committee accepted the resignation of W W Lee Jr as principal of Colt Memorial High School with his final day set for May 31 He leaves for Dedham Mass to take a higher paying post William C Hobbs was elected as his successor at 1600 salary and Miss Helen Purcell was elected Household Arts instructor to succeed Miss Phillep Other salary updates include raises for John A Bailey Jr Miss Annie Scanlon and Miss Mary E Spooner and several routine re-elections and personnel changes

Red Cross Campaign Opens in Town With Band Concert

Local Red Cross campaign begins Monday and runs all next week aiming to surpass Bristol’s $6500 quota. Monday’s Pastime theatre concert features the Second District Naval Reserve Band from Newport led by Clarke Brown with a Worcester-received program. Sergt Harold A Andrews of the AEF will speak on the battle front during intermission. Tuesday’s program includes George W. Gardiner of Providence sharing European war observations and moving pictures.

Wanted A Volunteer for Patriotic Parade Division

The Fourth of July committee seeks a woman to lead a patriotic parade division made up of parents and relatives of National service boys. With over 300 Bristol boys serving, arrangements are hopeful. Meetings next Monday in the Council Chamber will select leaders and officers for the event.

Successful Whist for Red Cross at Odd Fellows Hall

The whist event in Odd Fellows Hall on Wednesday evening, under United Brothers' Social Club, raised 36 dollars for the Red Cross. Twenty five tables were used with prizes awarded to both ladies and gentlemen, led by Helen Morris and James B Newman respectively.

The Bristol Mothers Club held its annual meeting at John Post Reynolds School. President Mrs. Thomas H. DeCou presided as reports were filed and officers for the coming year were elected: President Mrs. Ralph M. Holt, Vice President Miss Barbara Peckham, Secretary Miss Gertrude Hasbrouck, Treasurer Mrs. George L. Drowne.

Rev Dr Locke Returns Home After Melrose Treatment

The Rev Dr Locke arrived in Bristol with daughter Mrs W E Howe and Dr M Merriman after three weeks at the New England Sanitarium Melrose Massachusetts. They traveled by Memorial Ambulance leaving Melrose shortly after 1:30 and arriving about 4 p.m. He rested comfortably this morning.
