Superintendent Earle Retires After 32 Years in Bristol

Alfred G. Earle retired from active duties Saturday after more than 32 years with the Bristol County Gas and Electric Company and six years as superintendent beginning in 1896. Abel Reynolds of Providence succeeded him, starting yesterday with 22 years at Narragansett Electric Lighting. Earle, born in Boston in 1850s, helped install Bristol’s first electric light plant in 1889 and later served as engineer before promotion. He belonged to Masonic bodies and Knights Templars. his wife and two sons, Thert O. and Henry G., survived him.

Pleasing Recital by Miss Rebekah Church and Pupils

Miss Rebekah Church and Miss Helen Church presented a piano and voice recital at their Hope Street studio. The program featured works by Dvorak, Grieg, Schubert, and others with performances by Edna Robinson, Elizabeth Gladue Sones, Charlotte Church, and several members of the Church and Dimond families. The concert showcased two pianos, four hands, and eight hands pieces highlighting young talent in a intimate setting.

Fourth of July Committee Advances Independence Day Plans

At Burnside Memorial Building the Fourth of July Committee refined celebration plans. Matthew J. Cahoon was elected financial secretary and George R. Fish to invite Box Scouts for the morning parade. Samuel Molasky reported support for a trades procession in the afternoon, with Harry Bullock added to that committee. The secretary will invite Rev Nelson Kellogg to serve as chaplain. Superintendent William C Hobbs was asked to pick a girl to read the Declaration. Baseball team managers from Cranson Warsted Mills and Ever Ready Fire Company asked for afternoon game consideration on the common.

Daughters of Isabella Vote Donations and Events

Daughters of Isabella Hope Circle No 70 voted at its Knights of Columbus meeting to donate 25 to the Catholic Chant fund and 5 to flood sufferers. Loretta Walsh named chair of the public whist committee. An outing is planned for Saturday June 4 at Regent Mrs Margaret Morris home. Bristol Narrows selects Winifred Walsh as committee chair for a social and entertainment. Nora E. Dwyer led the arrangements and will represent the circle at the National Catholic Welfare Council meeting in Providence next September.

Weston to Speak to Medford Teachers on Junior Highs

Flood Disaster Relief Fund Seeks Local Support

The Mississippi River flood disaster prompts a national Red Cross appeal with over 10 million raised. Bristol aims to hit its 1 000 quota as locals contribute 983 36 toward the goal, with the Red Cross rooms in the post office open to take donations and a list of contributions from residents and groups.

Celebrate Silver Wedding of Mr and Mrs James McHugh

Mr and Mrs James McHugh marked their twenty fifth wedding anniversary with a Saturday evening celebration at their home 30 Garfield Avenue. More than 100 guests from Philadelphia Boston Warren and the local town attended a chicken salad supper and a music program. The couple were married May 14 1902 in Freeland PA and have resided here for 14 years. They have four children and Mr McHugh works as a watchman at the National India Rubber Company factory. The couple received gifts of silverware cut glass and a gate leg table.

Fifth District Court Fines Costa for Reckless Driving

Edward Costa of 15 Metacom Avenue was fined 20 dollars plus costs by Judge Frank H Hammill in the Fifth District Court for reckless driving after being clocked at 38 miles per hour on a May 13 crossing. Police described a prior accident with no injuries. Other cases included Manuel Costa non support continued one week and several civil matters with adjournments.
