Taxpayers Act Monday on Record Budget

The annual financial town meeting meets Monday at 7:30 PM in Bristol High School auditorium. The town presents a record budget of 4,077,466.26 with an 8 percent total pay raise including 3 percent annual increment and 5 percent cost-of-living hike. The police department seeks a 42,166 pay increase, adding to previously approved raises, potentially lifting the tax rate by about a dollar.

Joseph W. Borges 1s a Bristolian To Die In Vietnam

Private First Class Joseph W. Borges USMC 18 died May 8 five miles northwest of Cam Lo Quang Tri Province from wounds suffered on patrol. Bristol’s first casualty in Vietnam, born Providence July 3 1950, son of Joseph and Josephine Borges. Survivors include parents two brothers and grandfather. funeral by Sansone awaiting body arrival.

Bristol Charter Commission Weighs Town Finance Reform

Hydraulion Engine Station Fire Praised Snorkel Aid

Fire Chief lauds the Snorkel for halting spread after a Monday morning blaze destroyed much of Hydraulion Engine and H Company station at High and Franklin Streets. Neighbors spotted the fire just before 5 am. flames raced from the basement switchboard to the roof, destroying the second floor. George Lima, a driver, alerted nearby residents and moved Engine 1 out, while Deputy Chief Viera and John Chinigoj rescued and safe-guarded equipment. Fire officials credit the Snorkel with limiting damage to surrounding homes and aiding a rapid response. ongoing efforts aim to rebuild the 70 year old station.
