The Zoning Board confirmed work on rewriting the zoning ordinance and noted a $2,000 payment to Achille Manginante for yard work to conform to the rules. A. Sidney DeWolf Herreshoff of 125 Hope Street seeks an ordinance exception to erect a small yard building with half model displays of Herreshoff ships and Nathaniel G. Herreshoff’s work. The proposal seeks a 7 ft 6 in setback versus 15 ft. A public hearing is planned for Thursday June 11.
The First Bristol Troop plans Circus Night with the Ting-a-ling Bro circus for a one night stand at Scout Hall next Monday at 7:15 p.m. The event features side show acts from each patrol and a big Top performance after intermission, with concessions and souvenirs for spectators. Plans for June Rockville Roundup July Camp Yawgoog and summer outdoor meetings will be discussed during intermission.
Louis Medeiros was seated as president of the Bristol Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles at a Belvedere Hotel ceremony Tuesday night. Also installed were Jesse Faria as vice president Joseph Accardi as chaplain Anthony Nunes as treasurer Joseph Pannone as secretary Louis Falco as conductor David Myerson as inside guard Joseph Costa as outside guard and David Sanchas as trustee.

Main exercises at Hope Street corner at 11 45 am with American Legion Square dedication. Memorial Mass held May 2 at Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev John N Sinclair delivering sermon. Memorial Day committee includes George R Fish chair, Robert B Suzman secretary treasurer, Joseph A Arouca, Rev Albert C Larned, Virgil M Arruda. Charles E Burns chairs arrangements. Angelo Piccerelli toastmaster.
Ralph Henry Smith of Albany New York has been named Executive Director for Rhode Island Community Chests Inc The appointment announced by Bradford Henyon president of RICC. Smith will assume duties June 16 and serve full time as head of the Rhode Island Chest, a first for the organization.
A Bristol school committee voted raises for teachers and staff. The new base salary schedule ranges from 2900 to 3800 for elementary and junior high, and 3100 to 4300 for high school teachers. A part time janitor librarian and attendance officer received 100 raises. Executive session approved additional principal and supervisory pay increases.
A Bristol submarine officer Lt Edward L Leahy Jr lost in World War II will be honored with a granite monument bearing his name. The dedication occurs Memorial Day alongside the dedication of the corner of State and Hope streets as American Legion Square. Senator John O Pastore will speak at the ceremony following the Memorial Day parade.
