May Procession Set by Sodality at St Elizabeth's

The Children of Mary Sodality of St Elizabeth's Church plans its annual May procession Sunday at 3 pm. A three day novena runs Wednesday to Friday at 7 30 pm in the church. The walk starts at St Elizabeth's Convent on Lincoln Avenue and ends at the church with the Blessed Virgin Mary crowned by the sodality president. New members will be received, and the service ends with Solemn Benediction.

St Mary’s School Registration Set

Registration for children entering first grade at St Mary’s school will be held Thursday in the Byfield School building from 1 to 3 p.m. A child must be six years old by January 1, 1954 to be eligible for entry.

First Bristol Chestmobile X-Ray Clinic Phase Opens

The Rhode Island Health Chestmobile unit arrived in Bristol to run a two week visit ending May 22 at Bristol Manufacturing Company with 1010 employees scanned. The public phase begins Friday at Andrews School Veterans Home and Rockwell School with volunteers and student helpers coordinating typists and hostesses.

Baker Named New CD Co Chief In Civil Defense

Civil Defense Director Nelson G. Beals appoints William S. Baker III as co director of Civil Defense and administrator, succeeding Joseph Rodrique who resigned for personal reasons. Beals plans a Roslyn Base trip for all area CD directors to discuss finances and operations. A CD food sale is set for May 29 at Ferris Dry Goods Store to raise funds for a motion picture projector.

Bristol to host Rhode Island Little League Playoffs

Bristol was chosen by state Little League officials in Providence to host the state championship playoffs August 7 8 and 9 at Veterans Memorial Park Little League field. Roger W Pigeon Bristol Little League president said the decision follows Bristol winning the state title last summer. Four semi finalists from about 50 teams will play single games August 7 8 with a final doubleheader August 9.

Bruno appoints panel to study Bristol cafe game request

Town Council President Joseph F. Bruno named Canon Daniel K. Davis Pastor of St. Michael's, Mrs. Vasta L. Ruggerio founder of the Pyramids of Charity Women’s Club, and C Thomas Campagna Bristol Knights of Columbus leader to investigate a petition from sixteen bar club and cafe owners seeking coin operated miniature bowling devices. Davis will chair the committee and a meeting is planned to report at the next council session.

Vaccinations Day Scheduled for School Pupils

Free public clinics will be held at Rockwell House on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 2 and 3 from 11:00 to 12:00 for pupils entering school in September. Children must be five by August 31 and birth or baptismal certificates must be shown. No vaccinations at other times, Fitzgerald announced.

Kingsmen Plan for Paper Drive

The Kingsmen Bugle and Drum Corps organized a house to house scrap paper drive aiming to collect paper magazines and old rags. Volunteers will canvass Bristol Highlands Beach Terrace Bristol Narrows and outlying districts Monday evening and cover Thames Hope High Wood Streets Metacom Avenue and remaining streets Saturday. Proceeds will pay off the corps bus notes and volunteers seek townspeople cooperation to clean up waste paper.
