James F Meiggs announced his resignation from the Fourth of July Committee. He cited health and business pressures and said the move will be submitted to the Town Council at its next meeting. He has served since May 1937 and the issue prompted questions about recent appointments and indemnity bonds for the committee's activities.

The May 31 parade forms 9 30 am on Franklin Street and travels via Union, Hope, and Church to the waterfront for naval veteran services, then proceeds to Burnside Memorial Building for Soldiers and Sailors memorial exercises before returning to Kearney Post Home for World War I Honor Roll ceremonies.
Local families from Veste Italy attend a high Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church honoring their patron saint Maria Di Merino. Father Hillary of Portsmouth Priory presided with Father Victor Salmaso as deacon and Father Samuel Turrillo of Providence as sub-deacon.

Bristol County Public Service Commission approves hiring three town solicitors to represent Bristol County in the public hearing on increased bus fares. The panel will select an attorney from Bar rington War ren and this town with a $3 000 cap for the rate case. A quick agreement is sought and a formal announcement will follow consent to serve.
Col Wellington Furlong spoke at the Rotary Club on war and peace pointing to 6,000 refugees from Poland and Ukraine seeking Palestine. He urged a simple plebiscite as a democratic solution and warned against partition linking oil interests, Britain strategy, and Moscow influence in a tense global balance.

The writer recounts a 3pm departure from Cape Town and an afternoon journey over Hex Mountain Pass to Leingsburg where they dine by 7. The planned 125 mile drive to Beaufort West takes about two hours and twenty minutes, with only one lorry and one passenger car overtaken.
