School Committee Grants Mothers Club Auditorium Use

Bristol Improvement Association met at the Hotel Belvedere with strong attendance. The group discussed sidewalk and highway acts, civic pride, and litter. A committee was named to buy six refuse cans and involve Boy Scouts and schools. A park project at State street was proposed with a committee to report costs. Meeting night was moved to the first Monday. a speaker and smoker are planned for June 7.

Colt Memorial High School Prize Declamation Contest
The annual declamation contest at Colt Memorial High School will be held in the auditorium on Tuesday evening May 18 at 8 o clock. Ten contestants, five girls and five boys, will compete for six prizes totaling 45 in gold donated by Col S P Colt. Girls list Elizabeth Williston Leah Gardiner Theresa Sullivan Claudia Wilson and Catherine Morris. Boys William Gardiner Lawrence Greenwell Charles Wilson Edward Keegan and Walter Spear. Prizes for both genders are 1st 10 2nd 7 50 and 3rd 5. Mrs Edward D Kunz trained the contestants for several weeks. Judges names will likely be kept secret until the night.

Fourth of July Committee names reader for Declaration
At a Friday meeting the Fourth of July Committee selected Miss Elizabeth Williston to read the Declaration of Independence in the town hall Fourth of July exercises. Letters seek a naval boat for the celebration. if possible a torpedo boat or submarine may be secured. Newport Training Station sailors and state military units are invited to participate along with local fire and civic organizations.
