Grapes of Wrath shapes Florida labor scene critique
A harsh comparative essay links Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath to Central Florida labor conditions near Lake Okeechobee. It praises the Clewiston model town built by US Sugar Co and criticizes government planning, noting 4000 workers, 2500 steady and housing owned by the company. It cites Eleanor Roosevelt visiting Miami and calling the Grapes of Wrath regions horrible.
