Water safety program launched by Board of Recreation
The Board of Recreation initiated a new water safety program with Red Cross classes led by roving instructor Patricia A. King for outlying areas. Staff for summer were appointed save two positions. the nine week program costs exceed 4780 dollars. A memorial flag for John Shaw’s son was donated and will fly at Veteran’s Park.

The funeral for Mrs. Assunta Bruno wife of Frank Bruno who died Thursday at 158 High Street was held from her home Saturday at 9 15 a m with a requiem high Mass at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church at 10 a m The Rev James O Neil officiated and two grandchildren Richard and Francis Bruno served as altar boys Bearers included Town Council President Joseph F Bruno Frank S Bruno and Paul C Bruno George Wood Angelo Notarantonio and Sam Bruno Also attending were members of the Rosary and Altar Societies and local officials.

Police Report From May Incident At Newport
May 7 Ernest R. Martin a 21 year old sailor stationed at Newport was arrested after entering Nell's with a cut hand claiming a fight. He was jailed that evening with no doctor available for his hand. Rescue Squad members Capt Michael Flynn and Charles Luther responded. A separate crash on State streets damaged two cars when Andrew Campbell collided with William Ferrara's car as Ferrara exited. Ferrara and Campbell reported minor injuries to their vehicles with front door and fender damage.
