Last evening a Bristol meeting organized an executive committee to lead the second Red Cross War Fund campaign with a $6500 quota. Members include Wallis E. Howe chair and C. B. Rockwell, William T. English and Canadian soldiers held open air recruiting meetings in the park at Church Street foot on Wednesday and last evening. Crowds heard accounts from veterans of active service including a London regiments sergeant captured by Germans and escaped via Holland. Speakers described Zeppelin raids, civilians’ losses, and women entering wartime work as patriots urged enlistment. Some enquirers planned to report to Lieut A Hadley at the British and Canadian Recruiting Mission in Providence.

A special Wednesday session heard Krenty H Posytan complain the Prospect Street nuisance remains unabated and the Council pledged immediate action. Judge F H Hammill spoke for Boston real estate promoters who bought the Josephus Gooding estate to plot into house lots east of the reservoir. They seek to contribute a land strip for a highway if a satisfactory State street extension deal can be reached, and the matter was continued to the next meeting.

Bristol boys head to Fort Slocum for duty
Five Bristol youths and four from nearby towns departed on the 820 train to Fort Slocum New York Tuesday morning. They were briefed by Chairman Smith at the Selection Board Headquarters and placed under Joseph M Bottomley’s supervision. A crowd saw them off as the War Welfare Committee and King Philip Fife and Drum Band escorted them to the station. Comfort bags sweaters and tobacco were given by the Red Cross Auxiliary and the War Welfare Committee.

Colt's Son Russell Griswold Goes To France For Flying Corps
Russell Griswold Colt, son of Col. Samuel P. Colt and husband of actress Ethel Barrymore, trains in the Aviation Corps at Mineola Long Island and expects to return to France soon for service in the flying corps after receiving a Second Lieutenant commission. He previously served at Plattsburg in 1916 and 1917 and went to France after completing his course. He was rejected earlier for a physical disability due to an old ankle fracture.
