Baptist C E Society Re organized at Miss Luther's Home

Members of the Christian Endeavor Society of the First Baptist Church met at Miss Olive M Luther's Griswold Avenue home for re organization. Officers were elected including President George E Luther and Treasurer Olive M Luther with committees named and a constitution draft appointed. Regular meetings set for the first Friday each month.

Swamped Boat Sparks Warren River Sinking Rumors

Three Warren men abandon their leaking power launch after finding the pump out of order while fishing near Beach Terrace. Mrs Pothier alerted police at dawn, and Warren Oyster Company crews towed the craft to a Warren River wharf. the boat was mistaken for a sinking vessel as rumors spread.

Auto Tank Truck Kills Toddler at High and Oliver

A Gulf Refining Co gasoline tank truck fatally struck Frank Garvin Jr., nearly two, at the High and Oliver streets intersection shortly before noon. Witnesses saw the rear wheel run over the child as the truck driven by Robert L. Smith of Barrington northbound proceeded. Dr John R Bernardo performed the medical examination and the body was turned over to Undertaker Charles M. Conmery for an afternoon service. The truck’s shoe remains in police custody.

Rhode Island Independence Day Observance Next Monday

The General Assembly of Rhode Island proclaims Rhode Island Independence Day with school exercises including readings songs plays and features. The State Education Commissioner issues pamphlets with historical material for observances and readings. Towns display flags honoring the anniversary as Rhode Island first to declare independence among the colonies.

Last Rites for Beatrice Vieira After Auto Accident

Six year old Beatrice Vieira died from injuries after being struck by a car on Wood Street near Mt Hope Avenue. A family's prayer service preceded a First Baptist Church funeral with Portuguese and English readings, hymns, and sermons by Rev Joao Vieira Jr and others. Burial followed at North Cemetery with committal by Resto J Viena Jr and final blessing by Rev A F Jennings.

Conference With State Pollution Board on Sewage Disposal

Members of a town special committee on sewage disposal met with the State Board of Purification of Waters at the State House Annex in Providence. Present were Charles B. Rockwell Jr, William G. Dixon, Philip Brady, W Frederick Williams Jr, and Prof H K Barrows. Plans for disposal were discussed at length and a full committee meeting next week is likely to prepare a report for a special town meeting.

Haffenreffer Elected to Lincoln Memorial Commission

Rudolf F Haffenreffer Jr of Mt Hope Farms and Herreshoff Manufacturing Company was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Sidney R Burleigh and was assigned to the subscription committee. The commission adopted resolutions on Mr Burleighs death.
