Rhode Island Senate Split Over Kiernan Small-Loan Bill
The Kiernan bill drawn by a lenders committee would raise borrower costs for about 40 000 Crivistians in Rhode Island, opposing the De Pasquale proposal backed by the Russell Sage Foundation. Senators Kiernan Dwyer Beaucage Bodwell Handy and Kenyon supported the bill while De Pasquale Roberts Troy opposed. The De Pasquale measure would lower rates and improve borrower position, but failed to reach a vote again this year.
