The Budget Committee releases its annual report noting no tax rate rise and a $301,694.10 expenses budget with $283,694.10 to be raised by taxpayers and $18,000 from race track receipts and beverage licenses. It cuts requests by $45,587.75 across departments, citing uncertain future revenues and urges retrenchment.
Bristol would need a local lockup in the Burnside Memorial building cellar if the General Assembly adopts Kingsley L. Bennett’s plan to close all county jails. Police Chief Anthony J. Ferrara notes substantial savings from housing prisoners locally, though he avoids committing to the proposal. The town now pays the jailer 5 dollars monthly for janitor work plus 71 cents daily for feeding, plus 25 cents per reception and discharge, with a 500 dollar annual state salary.
