Opera comes to Rhode Island School of Design in March

Rhode Island Conservatory of Music Opera Co directed by Maurice A. Lewis presents the Bartered Bride in English on March 7 and 8 at the Rhode Island School of Design. Lent Lecture Series Planned by St. Michael's Church

St. Michael's Episcopal Church outlines Lent program with Monday lectures at 7 30 for teachers and parents starting March 18 25 and April 1 in the Holmes House led by Canon Samuel R of Religious Education Diocese of Rhode Island. Wednesday evenings feature visiting preachers from March 6 Ash Wednesday to April 17. Rector will preach Sundays at 11 and discuss Christ s teaching topics including wealth and poverty marriage and divorce immortality and ambition with dates March 10 17 24 31 dialogues and sermons by various clergy from St Mark s Warren St Thomas New Haven Trinity Newport Springfield Pawtucket and Cambridge.

Reverend Charles R. Cooley Accepts First Congregational Call

Branford and Meriden CT clergyman Charles R. Cooley has accepted the pastorate of the First Congregational Church, to begin April 1. A Yale Divinity School graduate ordained in 1932, he previously led churches in Branford and Durham, served as U S Navy chaplain with the 56th Seabee Battalion in the Pacific, and later held roles at Pearl Harbor Naval Hospital and Manhattan Beach Coast Guard Training Station. He is married with no children.

Planning Board Recommends Survey At Hope Street Junction

The Planning Board urged the Town Council to keep Hope and Thames streets clear of parked cars to improve traffic flow. Chairman A A Edmonds was asked to gather state tax assessment methods from other towns. A joint meeting with the Zoning Board is set for March 21 in the Council Chambers. Secretary R S Bosworth to draft revised subdivision rules for council review. The session was held at 1172 Hope Street.

Junior High Basketball League Opens at YMCA

A new junior high boys basketball league starts tomorrow at the local YMCA. Four teams Fire Crackers Soda Crackers Milk Crackers and Safe Crackers compete for the championship playoffs set to begin May 4. Anthony Agatiello has been named physical education director overseeing the program. First games at 10 00 am pair Fire Crackers against Milk Crackers then Soda Crackers versus Safe Crackers.

St Michael's Preaching Service Sunday Night

A preaching service is scheduled Sunday at 7 30 at St Michael's Church. Canon Anthony R Parshley will preach with Rev H A Jerauld and Rev Irving A Evans assisting.
