Colt Gains Class C Co-Championship and Playoff Spot

Colt High wins a Class C co championship after a compromise at the Principal's Committee on Athletics meeting at Barrington High School. Colt earns the No 1 Class C playoff berth and will face De La Salle at Brown University’s Marvel Gym on Saturday at 7 30 p.m. Local officials sold reserved seats ahead of time with remaining tickets due back before Saturday. Barrington meets Pawtucket East Friday at 7 30 p.m. and St Raphael vs Westerly follows at 8 45 p.m. The final state playoffs run Thursday and Friday March 7 and 8.

Bristol Teachers Endorse Pension Reform Group

The Bristol Teachers Association voted to join the provisional Rhode Island Federation of Public School Teachers Associations. They endorsed the efforts for a better pension law, backing aims of minimum 1000 and maximum 1200 after 35 years, and voluntary retirement after 25 years.

Child Welfare Head Addresses Couples Club in Rhode Island

Lawrence C. Cole administrator of Rhode Island Child Welfare Services spoke to Saint Michael's Couple's Club. He outlined four groups needing state care and described services of the Children's Division including direct care for 1700 children, protective work, and investigations. The group urged licensing of all boarding homes for children up to sixteen and discussed volunteer help, donations of toys, and a spring outing for State Home and School children. A $5 donation to Red Cross and Girl Scouts was approved.

Pfc Vernon L Wordell of Bristol Rhode Island serves with the 1st Cavalry Division in the Nippon capital occupation. He has overseas service since June 21 1945 and is an assistant supply sergeant with the 5th Cavalry Regiment.

Kearney Post Notes on Meetings and Social Events

The Executive Committee of Kearney Post No 6 meets at 8 p.m. at the Post Home on Franklin. The Post Dance committee also meets at 8 p.m. in the same location. A Thursday dance kicks off a series sponsored by Kearney Post chaired by Richard Rensenhaus. A Friday 8 p.m. business meeting will review committee reports followed by a social hour in the dugout.
