Town Council Wraps Up Fiscal Year With Bills and Circus Move

The Town Council closed its fiscal year at a Wednesday meeting. The Veterans of Foreign Wars may sponsor a circus on the common on July 11 only if a written release is provided by the July 16 Committee. The council discussed a highway contract with DeLeo Construction for 445.78 and noted材料 discrepancies and prior agreements with Dr. Samuel D. Clark.

New Street Signs Move To Guide July 4 Visitors

The highway department began installing 186 new street-name signs on Hope Wood High and Thames streets to guide visitors for the July 4 celebration. Crews completed work on arrivals Wednesday and will finish all intersections in phases.

Record crowds to march in Bristol Fourth of July parade

The 175th anniversary Fourth of July in Bristol will feature a record 1 035 servicemen including 580 Navy and Marine personnel. Newport and destroyer squadron 122 provide many bluejackets, plus 40 Marines, 50 Army troops, 400 National Guard troops and an Air Force color guard. Over two bands are planned to lead the march.

Town Eyes Gooding Lane Tract For Bristol Neck Playground

Bristol planning board discusses using a 10 acre town owned tract on Gooding Avenue between the Defiance fire station and Midway for a future playground. They propose a 10 year lease with a 10 year option to a business that might build a structure and fund the rest of the site. Maurice Smith 3rd, planning board secretary, defended timely tax payments at a planning board meeting after a report listing over 500 delinquent taxpayers was published. Capone told council many were dead, moved, or the taxes illegal, and the list was reduced June 21.

Judges Named For Soapbox Derby Sunday

At least 15 youngsters from the county will take part in the third annual Bristol County Soapbox Derby held to mark Bristol’s 175th Fourth of July anniversary. Bristol Fourth of July Parade Opens Historic 175th Anniversary

Bristol prepares for a 175th Independence Day observance highlighted by a massive military civic and firemen parade.
