Mount Hope Bridge to celebrate 175th anniversary with lights

Bridge authorities announced the Mount Hope Bridge will be lit to mark the 175th anniversary observance of the Fourth of July. Lights go on at dusk tonight and will also shine tomorrow night.

Robert J. Connery was elected chairman of the board of the Bristol branch of Industrial Trust Co at a regular meeting. He succeeds the late Prescott B. Paull and has served on the board since 1934.

YMCA Board Considers Tag Day for Playground Picnic

The YMCA board met last night and planned a tag day to raise funds for a children’s picnic at the playground. John P. Marshall and C C Cirillo will organize the event while additional costs this year threaten funds for the picnic. The group discussed a basketball court, softball diamond, and a $100 appropriation to Twilight League from a $200 total allocation.

Butterfield Band Concert Set for Eight Tonight

The Butterfield Band will perform tonight at eight at the bandstand under the sponsorship of the R I Department of Education and the Fourth of July committee. The Hope Circle of the Daughters of Isabella met at 8 p m last night at the K of C hall and voted to cancel the July 18 mystery ride. An outing will be held August 6 at Mrs. Margaret Jordan s Laurel Park home in Warren.
