Bristol business leader Manchester dies at 65

Howard Manchester, prominent Providence and Bristol business figure, died Wednesday at his Taber Avenue home after a two day illness. A former president of Providence Gas, he held banking roles and served on federal and public utility boards. Born January 22, 1865 in Bristol, he began at First National Bank and rose to trust company director, then manager of Bristol Industrial Trust and secretary of the Providence branch. His career spanned banking and civic fraternal service.

Training Camp Pays Way For Rhode Island Youths

On July 5, several Rhode Island State students depart for a month of Citizens Military Training Camps. Julio Xavier heads to Camp Devens for infantry training while Henry Masone goes to Fort Ethan Allen Vermont for Cavalry and Field Artillery tactics. Others enroll at Fort Adams Rhode Island for basic training as two battalions host about one thousand men.

Brown University student pastor to lead seven Sundays at First Congregational

Rev. O T Gilmore will supply at the First Congregational Church for the next seven Sundays with morning service at 10 30. Church School will be held Sunday for the last time this season. Evening services will be omitted during July and August.

National Rubber Company Outing Planned With Free Train

The National India Rubber Company prepares its third annual employee outing at Crescent Park with a free special train from Bristol at 9:15 A M and 7 P M return. A 10 AM to 12 PM sports program precedes a clam bake, with bocci, ipry cuthane hokies, scenic railway rides, swimming and dancing in the afternoon.

Parshley Headlines Whitefield Rotary Ladies Night

Rev A R Parshley rector of St Michael s church and Bristol Rotary secretary was the principal speaker at Whitefield Rotary Clubs fifth annual ladies night held Tuesday of last week. Parshley a former club president and past Governor of the 37th District which includes 50 clubs in New Hampshire and Vermont traveled by automobile with J Winthrop DeWolf Charles Dowd and Lawrence T Ashton.

Motorcyclist Arrested After License Charge

Anthony Puya aged 19 of 185 Mount Hope Avenue was arrested Tuesday evening on Ferry Road by a state trooper and charged with operating a motorcycle without a license. He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Philip Brady to await action by the Fifth District Court next Monday. In a separate incident, automobiles driven by Patrick P. Walsh of 941 Hope Street and Philip Shurman of 8 Mount Hope Avenue collided on Washington Street Tuesday afternoon causing minor damage to both vehicles.

Auburn Legion to Parade in July Fourth Event

About 25 members of Auburn Post No 20 accept invitation to join the parade on July 4 with expected 100 or more legionaries in line. Comrade Harold I June will fly from Long Island to Bristol on July 3 to attend. Members across the state will wear the adopted uniform. Kearney Post urged to purchase it and participate. Luncheon planned for visiting legionaries. No meeting next Friday night. postponed to July 17. James T. Pierce, Commander.

Directors Meet at Y M C A Board Session

The Y M C A board met in the board room to review the recent financial campaign reporting 5 304 50 raised. Hobson and Brenneke were elected to revise and update the constitution and by laws while interior painting and tiling of the shower room were planned. New directors were elected for a three year term including Dr A M Mekrintan Henry We Peterson Henry Wood Paulyerzig and Re S Bosworth BohSaiMi served as facilitator to the board.
