Sandhogs Near Breakthrough For Lincoln Tunnel Third Tube

For months sandhogs have labored under the Hudson to reach daylight on the New York side as the third Lincoln Tunnel tube nears completion. Over 2,000 tunnel rings weighing 240 tons each form the shield while crews face dangerous pressure and crumbling foundations. The workers, averaging about 45, gain $29 daily for up to six hours, and pride themselves on skill, teamwork, and reliability in a demanding, wet work environment.

R I Official Views Pier Location in Rhode Island

First look at the site of a new state pier in town was taken yesterday by John L. Rego director of Agriculture and Conservation. Rego's department will oversee the 50,000 conversion of the pier from National Guard use to a public pier for sports and commercial fishermen and yachtsmen. Accompanying Rego was Thomas J. Wright chief of the division of Fish and Wildlife. Wright's division will use a portion of the pier for a marine patrol boat berth. Rego's trip aimed to assess the project proposed by the Harbor Development Commission and sponsored by Rep. Gladys M. Brightman. Mrs. Brightman and harbor commission members accompanied Rego. Also viewed were the launching ramp site at State street and the Poppasquash road area north of the Poppasquash.

Mass Contractor Low Bidder on Reserve Armory

The Welbilt Construction Co of Newtonville Mass is the apparent low bidder for an Army Reserve Armory on the north side of Asylum road. Bid $181,920 versus Kirkland Construction Co Cambridge at 204,198. Government estimate 164,500. Review two weeks, possible award end of period, start within two weeks, possibly last week of July. Town council authorized sale of 5.3 acres at old Poor Farm site to federal government for 7700.

Slip Dredging Awarded To Rego Co On 1800 Bid

Rego and Sons Construction Co. won the dredging contract for State street and Church street slips. Their bid of 1800 topped two rivals, Thomas W. Kidd Jr. at 8100 and C Brito Construction at 2800 or 2000 if fill was removed. William A. Rego said work could start within a week and finish in about three weeks. the council to have Harbor master Wardwell verify mean low water height and approve completion.

August 15 is set for completion with occupancy expected soon after by the 100 man battery. Each house budgeted at 13500 dollars, with bids possibly issued as a New England package deal. A Boston meeting will review housing criteria, while land acquisition and zoning details remain unresolved.

Last Day To Enter Miss Fourth Of July Contest

Entry deadline is tomorrow at noon for the Miss Fourth of July pageant chaired by Thomas Fitzpatrick. Eleven entrants already. judging Tuesday at 5 p.m. on Reynolds School reviewing stand. The winner is crowned Wednesday at 10 a.m. on the Harriet Bradford Inn balcony by Town Council President Joseph F. Bruno.

Bristol Junior Chamber installs new president and officers

Richard Spence was installed as president of the Bristol Junior Chamber of Commerce along with internal VP Maynard Shulman external VP George Lima secretary Vernon Huestis and treasurer Vasco Castro at the Harriet Bradford Inn during the monthly meeting. Final plans were made for the Night Before The Fourth Dance at King Philip Bakemaster with Eddie Zack's orchestra. Ticket sales were reported as good.

Casino Theatre Opens With The Seven Year Itch In Newport
