A Bristol observer recalls D-Day era when Clifton College housed U S First Army HQ and Old Glory flew over the city. Docks and warehouses buzzed with crates and convoys while American clubs fed, housed, and entertained sailors and soldiers. Local residents cheered and interacted with G I s during long summer evenings and Christmas 1944 shows by Walden Greenwell and companions.
