Fire Chief to Lead Bristol 4th of July Parade

For the first time in years Senator Coggeshall will not head the Firemen's Division. Fire Chief Moses Moore takes the lead with Brig Gen Hall and Lt Wall heading other divisions. Navy group led by Rev Parshley, State Guard by Albert Earle, Civil Air Patrol by Frank Sylvia, and other marshals include Col Hambrick and Mrs Sidney Herreshoff. Field meet and events run 3 to 6 pm on the Common featuring races, a softball game, a doll carriage parade, and a baseball game.

Bristol Girl Scouts to March in 4th of July Parade

Mrs Earl Sturdevant Bristol Girl Scouts commissioner announces the parade lineup for the 4th of July march. The order includes Bristol Senior Girl Scouts Mariners Barbara Huestis leader Goldenrod Troop Arthur Whese leader Marigold Troop Charles Martin leader and the Columbine Mystical Rose Troops led by Arnold Dryer.

Yacht Club Plans First Formal Dance This Season

The Yacht Club will host its first formal dance Tuesday night the eve of the Fourth. An orchestra will provide music as the Senior committee led by Janet MacDougall oversees the event. Members include Mary Street, Mrs Sidney Herreshoff, Mrs Frank Pardee Jr, and others. The Junior committee is headed by Barbara Babcock with Polly Babcocky and Nancy Pardee among its members.

Guisto Joins U S Navy From Local Family

Joseph Dominic Guisto, son of Mr and Mrs Carmelo Giusto of 320 High Street, enlisted and was sworn into the U S Navy on Wednesday. A former Colt Memorial High School student, he previously worked for the U S Rubber Company. His brother Pro Dominico Giusto is at Cushing General Hospital in Framingham, Massachusetts.

Parking On The Colt Drive Prohibited This Weekend

Chief Ferrara announces total parking ban along Colt Drive after heavy complaints from Industrial Trust Company and Harry DeW Allen. Trustees will keep the drive open for driving. police will monitor with weekday cruisers and weekend patrols by a special officer to enforce the rule.

Beach committee backs crescent plan with twin bulkheads

Bristol Beach Committee met to review district engineer recommendations for twin steel plank bulkheads 200 feet north and 150 feet south and a crescent shaped beach. About 12 000 cubic feet of fill would create a 125 foot deep area from the wall to the water, topped with sand. Diving boards at the south end would replace a float, expanding swim space. Total cost estimated 25 to 40 thousand dollars pending Marine Construction Engineers.

Pattern For Tomorrow: Accidents Surpass War Deaths Says Rotary Speaker

Lincoln J Lippincott, Consulting Engineer with the American Motorists Insurance Co, told Rotary Club that total deaths from accidents since Pearl Harbor through June 1 total 336,900, more than war deaths by over 100,000. Brothers Reunite in England as Two Borges Return Home

Staff Sgt. Joseph B. Borges of the 328th Bomb Lqd arrives on the Queen Mary and will stay 31 days before reporting to the Air Force Reception Center. He has served three years as a technical inspector in the European Theatre. In Bristol he met his brother Edward Borges, who is also expected home within a week.

Hoover Jr. Reports To Naval Officer School

Gilbert Corwin Hoover Jr USNR of Bristol Rhode Island has reported to the officers school at the Naval Training Station Norfolk Virginia to receive instruction for duties aboard a destroyer of the Atlantic Fleet. He is the son of Captain and Mrs G C Hoover Sr USN of Bristol and is a Brown University graduate.
