Bristol Tercentenary map by Wallis Howe set for July sale

Bristol figures in Rhode Island Tercentenary celebrations with Mr Wallis E Howe’s detailed pictorial map of early Bristol. The map depicts historic buildings ships and lighthouses and will be reproduced in three colors and sold July 2 by the Tercentenary Committee. The piece honors Bristol history and serves as a visitor guide to marked old houses.

Exhibition entries feature historic curios and artworks

Bishop Bennett addresses Colt Memorial graduates in Rhode Island

Auxiliary Bishop Granville G Bennett urged 43 graduates to think independently and work through problems as they enter life. The ceremony at Guiteras Memorial High School featured awards to Peter Alfano, medals for science and merit, speeches by Marjorie Holmes Magee, and a class gift. Separately, Bristol prepares for Independence Day with a Midway, WPA vaudeville, and a parade plan including Justice Antonio Capotosto as speaker.

School Graduation Ceremony Highlights and Donations

Ruth Tattrie presented funds to start a new piano fund, received by Arthur Manchester. Mrs Mary J Condon, school committee member, handed diplomas aided by Miss Sally Mapes, daughter of the superintendent. Sally received a corsage bouquet from Raymond L. McNamara, class president. The program featured four songs, including the Alma Mater, directed by Mrs. Donovan.

Eulogy for Engineer Mr Brightman at Senior Banquet

A eulogy for Mr Brightman was delivered by Superintendent Flmer S Mapes at the senior class banquet in the school auditorium on Wednesday night. Mapes praised the deceased engineer for starting a new career late in life. Other speakers included Principal Fitzgerald, Jane Walker, Raymond McNamara, and class president. After dinner, dancing followed to a Bristol orchestra. Faculty members and Mrs M Theresa Donovan, music supervisor, attended as guests.
