Indictments in Bristol Water Embezzlement Case
Grand jury yesterday handed up indictments against three men linked to the Bristol Water Company for a $5,000 embezzlement. The defendants allegedly robbed the treasury while a former WPAN worker faces additional charges after a shooting incident on Boure and Veracom avenues on April 23. None of the shots caused lasting harm, and bail was set at $2,000 in one case.

Funeral Service Held Today for Joseph M Sousa
Funeral services were conducted at St Peter’s Church for Joseph Marshall Sousa known as Joseph Viet do who was found drowned Sunday in Bristol harbor. Frank Dias recovered the body and Dr Ralph Petenecoot ruled accidental drowning. Sousa, a long time Bristol resident and landscape gardener for Samuel Kinder and Brother, is survived by his wife two sons a daughter in Portugal and one sister.

Colt Memorial High School Commencement Plans Outlined
Forty three graduates will receive diplomas at Colt Memorial High School commencement Thursday night in the Guiteras Memorial Junior High. Valedictorian Henry Trudell and salutatorian Marjorie Magee, both Rhode Island Honor Society members, lead a program with speeches by Rt Rev Granville Bennett and Principal Edward J Fitzgerald. Diplomas are to be presented by Mary J Condon with awards from the Alumni Association and Walsh Memorial medal among honors.

Water Carnival Held by Bristol Scouts at Harbor
Bristol scouts staged a water carnival along Bristol harbor and Windmill Point with boating and water games despite a cool breeze. J A Mon Jamiel performed diving and underwater swimming exhibition while a tug of war captained by Ralph Matasco and Albert Vasconcelos drew crowds. Anthony Monofo claimed first in a free for all race with Michael Ruggiero second and Albert Vasconcellos third. Tudor Belanger and Ralph Monofo passed compass tests for the Fisher Island contest to select a scout for Battery 243rd CAC on its Fort Wright tour next month. The center ends June 3 and a mystery ride is planned. Senor Scouts meet this afternoon for Camp-o-ree prep. Bugle and Drum Corps meet tonight to select parade participants and plan July 4th events.
