Mass Meeting at Pastime to Recruit for Coast Artillery

Bristol residents urged to volunteer for the 19th Company as the meeting at the Pastime Theatre showcases speakers Captain John Collins Captain George A Taylor Rear Admiral John R Edwards Comrade John Holton Frank Hammill and the Coast Artillery band. The unit will assemble at the Naval Reserve Armory at 7 45 ahead of a procession to the Pastime.

Poultry Yard Raided. 10 Hens Stolen From Herreshoff

Thieves took ten hens valued at $15 from Charles F Herreshoff’s Poultry yard Friday evening. Police and special constable searched until 4 am but found no trace. A suspicious man was seen near Usher Cove and a sail boat possibly used by the thieves.

Constabulary Tonight in Uniform at Naval Armory

Bristol Constabulary orders every member to appear at the Naval Reserve Armory at eight o clock for inventory and re issue. Uniformed members are asked to wear their uniforms tonight while those without may obtain them at the armory. Edward J. W. Profitt of Cranston will speak on the force and council members are expected to attend.

Bristol Red Cross Auxiliary Receives War Supply Gift

The Bristol Auxiliary of the American Red Cross reports donations totaling $375.60 from multiple contributors including Mrs Eunice Cornell and John Holton who pledges monthly payments to support wartime relief. The Misses Barns provide dressings and sterilized relief supplies for use in France, stored locally for emergencies.

Court finds Raposa guilty in Fifth District case

John Raposa was found guilty by Judge F Ho Hammill for reveling on Franklin street last Friday evening and fined $3 plus costs totaling $975. Two cases against Vinto Benianino for carrying a concealed weapon and threatening to kill Mrs Raffe Carle were continued two weeks, and all civil cases were delayed the same amount.

Fourth of July Parade Plans in Bristol 1917

The Fourth of July Committee reports strong support for a morning parade in Bristol with at least three bands and two drum corps. Sen LeBaron Colt and Rep George F O Shaughnessy will speak, joined by Belgian ex minister Louis de Sadeleer. Boy Scouts and multiple local groups pledge participation. The Red Cross Auxiliary promotes parade uniforms and Red Cross kerchiefs for visibility.

Flag Pole and Flag for Common Fourth of July

A 91 foot flag pole will be erected near the band stand this week with a 20 by 30 foot wool banner. The flag dedication and town hall exercises will follow the parade around noon. Donations toward the pole and flag total about ten dollars short of the needed amount.
