Brown Univ. Professor R. C. Archibald to Retire

Professor Raymond C Archibald a renowned mathematician and bibliographer will retire as mathematics professor emeritus at Brown University on June 30. He served 35 years in Brown's math department and held editorial roles including editor in chief of the American Mathematical Monthly. He has held various executive posts in the AAAS and other journals.

A planned war film program titled Very Interesting War Movies will run Tuesday night at Colt Memorial Hall under the Civilian Defense Council. The two hour ten minute program is open to the public with admission, but attendees must be 16 or older. Civilian defense workers are urged to attend. Films include The World at War, Yanks Invade Arica, US Carrier Fights for Life, Russia Fights Back, West Point in War Time, New Thrills 43, Know Your Enemy Japan, What to Do in Gas Attack, and New Fire Bomb.

The Gremial Daughters of Portugal announce a 100 dollar scholarship to Margaret Mary DePonte for being the outstanding Portuguese American student in Colt Memorial High School's graduating class. DePonte, daughter of Anton and Antone DePonte of 112 Union Street, participated in First Aid, Rostrum, Green and White staff, French Club, athletics, Junior Red Cross, Victory Corps and Dramatic Club. She will receive the scholarship upon starting college next fall.
