Foreign Naval Officers To Visit Here For July Fourth Celebration
Eleven foreign officers will attend a three weeks course at the Naval Supply Depot in Newport beginning yesterday and ending July 10. They will visit Bristol on July 3 and 4 to take part in Independence Day events and parade. Participants include Italian officers Duilio Bonsangue Carmine Luongo and Carlo Galeazzi. Portuguese Lt. Victor Pedroso and Lt. Humberto Dos Reis. Ecuadorian LCDR Gerard Mejia. Turkish Lt Kemal Unver and Lt Fahri Toksoy. Uruguayan Ens Carace Magallanes. Cuban Ens Manuel de Alberto Martinez Trujillo and Ens Alberto de Sosa Chabu.

Elected Rhode Island Legion Official From Kearney Post
Dept Officer John J. Sylvia of Kearney Post No 6 was elected senior department vice commander of the Rhode Island Legion at the 40th annual Providence convention June 20 21 22. He previously served as junior vice commander and ran unopposed. Kearney Post earned a national citation for outstanding child welfare work in the department. Post commander Francis P Cuomo is the welfare officer. Samuel J Smith served on the convention finance committee. Mr Smith post commander Bernard Grabert and Mr Sylvia were named to handle monthly cigarette distribution at the R J Veterans Home for the department.

Mrs Bernard Jr to Represent New England at Sterling Bowl
Mrs Sebastian Bernard Jr leaves today for Newark New York to compete in a national flower arranging contest as the New England sale representative. She is a lecturer and adjudicator with twenty years in the field. The competition, part of the Rose Festival, features 14 finalists and 7 alternates from 100 entrants for a Sterling Cup worth 5000 dollars kept by the winner for one year. The event takes place at Jackson and Perkins Rose Garden garden house with roses donated by the sponsors. Mrs Bernard will return the day after the tourney.
