Town Council authorized Town Engineer Joseph A. Margo to advertise for bids on realigning space at the Burnside Memorial Building. Five thousand dollars is set for location changes and one thousand for heating upgrades.
The Bristol and Warren Old Timers baseball teams for players over 40 will play July 3 at 5 30 p m on the Common. Proceeds go to the Jimmy Fund. Bristol coach Whitey Mello and Warren coach Henry Correia lead the teams with numerous local players named.
Rev Henrique Rocha of St Elizabeths Church named 1958 Civic Service Award recipient by Bristol Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles. Ordained 1925, served in Providence then Bristol since 1936, visited Azores in 1949 and 1952, spearheaded St Elizabeths School dedication in 1954, and moderates several parish societies. Testimonial banquet set for Sunday June 29 at White Rail with installation of new Bristol Aerie officers.
Five playgrounds will open Monday with supervisors announced by Anthony E. Agatiello director. Swimming instruction at the beach will be under Vincent N. Securo with Patricia King as roving instructor.
Hopeworth Plat developer William Rego was granted a continuance by the Town Council on road work. A July 10 date was set for a new plan and completion timetable as residents urge the roads be finished by November 1.
Industrial Properties head Jacob Grossman of Quincy bid 110000 at the Plant J public auction on Thames Street. Owners deemed the bid too low and gave 48 hours to meet an acceptable price as 200 attendees watched looms, machinery, and fixtures sell over seven hours for about 300000 in total.
