Skipper of Visiting Destroyer Is Cmdr David P Wynkoop

Commander David P Wynkoop USN serves as commanding officer of the visiting destroyer USS Glennon DD 840. Born April 17 1920 in Traverse City Michigan he is a Michigan State University and USNA class of 1943 graduate whose career includes the USS Overton USS Boyle USS Shannon Tumult and other assignments overseas and ashore including Mediterranean and Okinawa operations and Navy staff posts.

Historical Society Urged To Lead Bristol Restoration Effort

At its monthly meeting Norman B. Smith urged the Bristol Historical Society to lead preservation work to unify efforts in town. He praised Hope Street shopping center plans that avoid conflict with historic buildings and highlighted the value of protecting Bristol’s tree-lined streets as a cornerstone for future preservation and tourism potential.

Bristol Prepares First Rhode Island Rascal Parade Appearance

Bristol will host Rhode Island’s first view of the Air Force GAM 63 Rascal missile during the Fourth of July parade. The 50 foot missile will travel from Wright Patterson AFB to Bristol, carried to enhance SAC power aboard a B-47. The Eight Air Force Command Band, led by Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Lanzillotti, will perform, with the unit famed for national tours and civic appearances.

Hooten Fund Receives New Donations

Donations to the Hooten Fund since the last issue bring the total from 703 to 865 dollars. Contributions include 100 from Carr Mig Co employees, 25 from Bristolite Foundation, 10 from Dr Paul A Botelho, 25 from Little Town Shoppe, and support from United Rubber Cork Linoleum & Plastic Workers of America, Hope Street Market, and Dolores and Joseph Malloy.
