Field Artillery Unit Assigned for Bristol July Fourth Parade

Governor Vanderbilt arranged a Battery of Field Artillery and two guns for Bristol's Fourth of July celebration. Joseph Meiggs reports the artillery will join the parade and fire a 48 gun salute, one for each U.S. state. The governor seeks a larger Navy ship for Bristol Harbor and submarines are arranged for the observance period.

Correia Wins Bristol Rotary Scholarship

Correia becomes Bristol High School’s first recipient of the Bristol Rotary Club scholarship, a $100 award. He graduates with a 94.30 average over three years and received the check from Principal Edward J Fitzgerald at the Andrews auditorium commencement. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Manuel Correia of 13 Third School Street and will attend Brown University.

Roof repairs at Guiteras high face added expense

A J Holmes, engineer in charge, told the school committee last night that rotted roof boards and rafters could raise costs for the Guiteras Memorial Junior High School repairs. Bids were reviewed but awarded contracts were deferred pending Holmes’s bid analysis and a partial report due at a future meeting. Taxpayers had previously appropriated 12000 for repairs.

St Andrews Club Lawn Fete Set For Tomorrow Afternoon

St Andrews Club plans a lawn fete on the Holmes House grounds from 3 to 6 pm to benefit the camp fund and parochial work. Activities include candy and cake booths, white elephant sale, Old Oaken Bucket game, tea and sandwiches, ice cream and drinks, and a Saturday night beans and vegetable salad menu.

Mt Carmel Feast Plans Include Two Brass Bands

The Mt Carmel group announces July 14 to 16 events for the Feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel with two brass bands engaged. Knightsville Band from Providence performs Friday evening on the Common 8:30 to 11:00, followed by Silver Lake Band Saturday and Sunday concerts and parades linked to church services.

Masonic Services Planned at St Michaels and Local Bride Shower

Two Warren lodges Shis and Shat from Here and Shere plan a Sunday evening service at St Michaels with Rev Parshley and assisting pastors from local churches. A full-vested choir will be led by Walter Angell at 730 o clock. Nearby events include a July wedding for Miss Colte and Armand Perreira and a benefit shower for the Fourth of July fund.
