Murder at South Main Street Store Claims Two Lives
Joseph Novogroski, 55, a well regarded Providence businessman and father of Mrs. Max Makowsky, was shot at his 53 South Main street store and died. The gunman Fred LeClair of Pawtucket, who also died by self inflicted gunshot in the store cellar, had fled after the murder. Police flooded the cellar with water. LeClair’s body was found near a door. LeClair had recent trouble with authorities in Pawtucket and Fall River. The case is linked to a possible robbery motive, though little cash was found. Novogroski’s funeral was held following Orthodox Jewish custom with large attendance.

State Board of Agriculture forms entomological department
The State Board of Agriculture met at the State House Tuesday and elected officers while deciding to form an entomological department. Secretary John J. Dunn was instructed to seek an $8000 appropriation from the August General Assembly to fund a winter campaign against the brown tail moth. The department will oversee orchard nursery and apiary work under one unit. The brown tail moth has appeared in new areas, prompting a winter suppression strategy. William Williams of this town was re elected cattle commissioner for Bristol County.

Special Town Meeting votes Bristol debt for sewers and streets
Thirty five residents attended a Bristol special town meeting in the Town Hall to authorize borrowing up to 85000 for sewer expansion and to hire funds for notes. They also approved borrowing up to 5000 for repairing Franklin street and a portion of High street south of Franklin, with notes issued and renewals allowed. The meeting adjourned at 7:58 after 25 minutes.
