Fourth of July water battle planned for afternoon parade

The Fourth of July celebration committee announces a statewide water battle for 230 pm on the holiday. Fire Chief Antonio Goulart leads arrangements with two destroyers expected to appear. veterans’ groups and the Shrines division in Providence commit to participate. The committee seeks donations to fund the event and thanks supporters for timely help.

Senator Pastore to speak at Fourth of July exercises

U S Senator John O Pastore will be the orator at the Fourth of July patriotic exercises announced by Mrs Frank L Martin chair of the committee The declaration of independence will be read by Monroe E Toews The Star Spangled Banner solo will be by Oliver Burton with the Bristol Senior High School Band Invocation by Rev Albert E Hutchison and benediction by Monsignor Charles H Lynch.

Spirit of 76 painting to backdrop 4th of July ball

Local artist Shirley H. Baker created a large oil painting of the Spirit of 76 for decorations at the 4th annual Fourth of July Ball. The 814 by 11 foot canvas was completed in two weeks in the Bristol Train of Artillery armory with support from Bristol Manufacturing Corp. The painting will be used as a backdrop for Art Tancredi and his orchestra at the National Guard Armory on July 2.

Special Town Meeting Consideres School Spending and Zoning

The town council will hold a special meeting to act on granting the school department permission to spend for a survey and school building. A new zoning map and unpaid bills will also be addressed, with the zoning map set for action next Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The council notes 3,333 residents have been inoculated in free polio clinics. A nuisance dwelling at 11 Franklin St. is slated for cleanup at an estimated $00, owned by George and Moses Moore. Two new Hydraulion Hose Co. No 1 members are approved, and street projects may continue with remaining funds. The Town Beach opens June 24. patrol duty is requested for summer hours. A Fourth of July block dance and an Orange Crate Derby are approved.
