Amateur only fourth of July soapbox derby on Bay View avenue will shorten the course for speed with prizes including a bicycle. The Dahl Company plans to move into the former Bristol Macaroni building on Washington street, adding shifts and 15 more workers, expanding from Barrington operations to Bristol with government orders and new machinery.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile collected 112 pints from 123 Bristol donors as last minute pledges pushed the town toward its 150 pint quota. Dr. D. V. A. Capone praised volunteers and the press for aiding the drive though 38 pints short.
Fire destroyed an old two story barn on the Grace property at Prudence Island yesterday afternoon. Fifteen volunteer firefighters led by Chief N Todd Farnham and sailors from the nearby naval base prevented spread to nearby outbuildings. The yard had long been unused and held nothing of value. Cause of the fire is unknown.
Dr C Paul Bruno Bristol physician chosen as Chief Marshal for the Fourth of July celebration. A Providence native, he has 17 years in Bristol practice, medical education from Hahnemann and Providence College, and served in the Army Medical Corps. He is a former city health physician, Red Cross disaster chair, and Rotary member with a family and local ties.
Colt Mount Pleasant, Eastern Division co champion, faces Mt Pleasant Central Division runner up in a 4 p.m. Monday quarterfinal at Guiteras Field for the right to enter the state scholastic baseball championship. Colt, fresh from a win over Pawtucket East, seeks a crowd beating the early hurdle to the title.
An outdoor Scouters round-up for Bristol County District will be held this evening starting at 8:30 on the grounds of Richard Harbach’s home at 259 New Meadow Road Barrington. Dinner is at 6:30 p m followed by an evening of fun and fellowship.
