Angelo Pozzi Named Manager at Industrial Bank

Angelo Pozzi of 129 St St is promoted to manager of the Bristol Branch of the Industrial National Bank. Fred Piggott announces Pozzi, a long time employee, succeeds the late Carl Whthcraft and brings forty years in banking and industry service. Pozzi chairs local Rotary events and serves as director of the Bristol District Nursing Association.

Premier Thread Plans August Move To Town

Richard Mahoney of Premier Thread Co says the plant in the old Collins and Aikman building on Thames Street will transfer machinery from Central Falls by late August. The move aims to create 250 to 300 jobs in full operation, with about 100 current workers, including Bristol residents, joining the transfer.

Health Officer Receives Two Applications For Sanitarian

Dr Raul Bruno, local health officer, said two town residents Charles Raiola and Nicholas Mancieri applied for the health agent and sanitarian post paying 3500 dollars annually. Applications accepted until June 15. Bruno may name one or two candidates after council considers a health survey driven ordinance. Raiola holds BS in pharmacy from University of RI and Mancieri is Bristol High School graduate with four years Navy service as pharmacist mate. both can type.

Elks Dance Draws Hundreds to Record Hop

James JD Rielly, chairman of the Elks Club teenage record hop, said the Wednesday event drew nearly 400 people after a hot dog roast during intermission.

Applicants Screened For Nurse Post

Joseph Sansone, chairman of the committee on health, said this week that nine applicants for the position of additional school nurse have been screened by the committee. The school board will meet next week to interview the nine applicants and appoint after a special meeting.

Town Council Accepts $6000 Sale Price for St Mary Site

At a special meeting the Town Council agreed to sell the St Marys Church site for 6000 dollars. The Very Rev Msgr Charles H Lynch proposed 56000 for buying and renovating the 87 year old building but accepted 6000 for sale with conditions requiring town meeting approval for land use and the common being available for all citizens.

Bristol bookie Chirico fined for horse bet recording

Louis Chirico, 33, of 652 Hope St Bristol, was fined 100 dollars after pleading guilty at a special session of the fifth district court to recording and registering horse bets. Acting Judge Joseph D Accardi presided. St Bernard W Manchester of the state police said Chirico was stopped on Hope Street near Calt Drive with two racing slips eight Armstrong racing sheets and six pads. The judge warned that a similar offense could bring up to 15 years in prison with no fine if convicted again. Chirico had no prior record.
