The School Committee announced a town wide lighting survey by Narragansett Electric Company to assess school conditions. They will study painting needs and repairs delayed by labor shortages and war costs.
Edward Mello 23 pharmacist's mate third class USNR of Bristol serves on a destroyer escort in the Atlantic Fleet. He trained at Portsmouth VA Naval Hospital Corps School and holds American and Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbons. Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mello. brother John Jr also serves in the Navy. Prior to service he worked for Collins and Aikman and attended Colt Memorial High School.
Gildo Louis Botelho, 86 Washington Street, sworn into the U S Navy last Friday. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Botelho born in Bristol. He attended Colt Memorial High School and played in the school band and varsity football center. Employed as a printer at Franklin Printing Co. Two brothers also in the service, Joseph a private first class stationed in Nevada and Felicano Sle on duty in the North Atlantic.
The First Congregational Church will hold its annual Church School Picnic on Sunday. Children and parents meet at the church with supervision by Hubert F. Hill and the Sunday school teachers. Transportation is available for those without means to Mt Hope Bay shores.
Staff Sergeant Daniel N Brooks arrives in the China Theatre assigned to the Fourteenth Air Force's Chinese American Composite Wing. He is a propeller specialist with the Gambay medium bombardment group. Brooks is the son of Newell Brooks of Bristol Rhode Island and is married to Iris Brooks of Blackshear Georgia. He joined the army December 13 1941 and previously worked for Collins & Aikman Bristol.
The RFC announces surplus aircraft and parts will be distributed to over 30 000 educational institutions for classroom study. Catalogs arrive in June with itemized costs and terms. shipments exclude flight use and require eligibility proof.
Industrial workers purchasing War Bonds at their plants in the Providence area receive tickets to the Providence performance of Here's Your Infantry at Pierce Memorial Stadium East Providence Friday night. Bonds for admission are sold at stadium gates.

St Michael's Church hosted a Communion Breakfast for the men of the parish. The next breakfast is scheduled for Sunday September 16.
Mrs Frederick N Palmer of Pop pasquash won two blue ribbons at a flower show and silver tea given by the Dirt Gardeners of Providence at the Narragansett Boat Club on the Seekonk River last Friday. She earned in fine arrangement of shrubs and flowers showing Chinese influence and in monochromatic arrangements of pink and rose.
M Stuart Barr received an honorable discharge from the U S Navy on Friday June 8. He enlisted October 24 1942 and served as a storekeeper on an LST invasion craft in the invasions of North Africa Sicily and Italy. He later served on supply duty in England where he sustained a serious back injury. His Bristol home is 693 Hope Street. Lt William H Angevine Jr son of the town treasurer and Mrs William H Angevine is on a 60 day home leave after being liberated from a German prison camp where he was held two years. Flowers for the Veterans Hospital Newport may be left at 701 Hope Street in Mrs J Howard Paull s yard before 11 o’clock Thursday. flowers should be wrapped and stems left long and containers of water are provided.
