Hot asphalt two inches thick is being compacted on High Street as shown. The Gammino contract totals $20,000, saving about one third of the $32,000 town meeting appropriation approved in April.
A total of 24 candidates filed for the charter commission election set for Tuesday June 25 vying for nine seats. Town Clerk Anthony J Dennis Jr said all names meet signature requirements. The Board of Canvassers will meet tonight to certify the list. Nine candidates had Democratic backing. GOP endorsements will be considered on ability, not party lines.
Ninety one Bristol Senior High School seniors were awarded diplomas last night in Andrews gym by School Committee member Paul Thompson before about 1000 relatives and friends. Vicki Balzano, salutatorian, and Ann Jane Burke received diplomas from fathers. top awards went to Ann Marie Cavallaro, Anthony Nastri, Hazel Ouellette, Anthony DaPonte, Peter Natale, Anthony Mascena, plus alumni and Remsmelear Institute honors.
Dr Mur ray P Horwood dies from a coronary thrombosis during the initial health survey in Bristol. The MIT veteran resided at 8 Craigie Street Cambridge Massachusetts and leaves a wife two daughters and a son. His death pauses the report to taxpayers and the health chief plans no immediate replacement. The town council sent condolence to Mrs Horwood.
The Bristol Fire Department hosts a large Memorial Sunday observance with a parade at 2:00 PM featuring hundreds of firemen from four Bristol companies and many Rhode Island units. A new monument will be unveiled at Town Hall, with wreaths laid by four town companies and honored by Jerome M. Donovan and Rev Harold Flynn. The event involves the Rhode Island State Firemen’s League and Chief’s Club, plus bands from local communities and police escorts.
Rev Albert E Hutchison of First Congregational Church urged Bastol Senior High graduates at Andrews gym to thank God for parental love and sacrifice. He said students must honor their parents and avoid letting that love down, stressing gratitude and responsibility.
