Bristol Town Council Debates Sewer Act and Burial Lot Care

The Bristol Town Council met Tuesday with Judge Bosworth urging connection of unsanitary areas to the town sewer under the 1900 act. A plan for North Cemetery burial lots is being prepared by Willia Manchester. Police salary petition, street layout plans, junk license granted, basin and sidewalk petitions approved, gutter drive permit referred, highways committee to review. Numerous bills approved for payment.

Weighing and Measuring Test Scheduled for Saturday

The Weighing and Measuring test continues and all parents who have not yet weighed their children at Reynolds School Italian Hall on Wood Street and Columbia Hall on Wood Street are urged to attend Saturday June 8. The buildings will be open 10 to 12 in the morning and 2 to 5 in the afternoon. Three locations will host the tests for convenience and districts I III and V list streets including Hope Street Oliver Street Bay View Avenue Wood Street and more.

Bristol Improvement Association Convenes Final Summer Meeting

The Bristol Improvement Association will hold its final summer meeting next Monday at 8 p.m. at the Hotel Belvedere. The committee on revision of the Sewer Act will present reports and other matters will be discussed. Members are urged to attend.

Rhode Island Registers 54 Fewer New Draft Registrants

Rhode Island reported 54 fewer registrations than expected for men turning 21 since June 5 last year, with 123 registering in the Sixth District. The district includes Bristol Portsmouth Tiverton Middletown Jamestown Little Compton and Block Island.

Passenger Fares Raised on New Haven Railroad

A substantial fare increase on the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad takes effect Sunday June 9 at 12.01 am. Bristol to Providence rises to 51 cents, Bristol to Warren 16 cents, with commutation tickets advanced 10 percent. Mileage books are abolished per government order, and all unused books redeemed at face value. Regional increases cover South Station Boston to Newport and other points including New London 2.02, New Haven 3.66, New York 6, Worcester 1.40, Taunton 73 cents, Newport 1.26, and Warren 35 cents.

Manchester and Marlowe Tie in Providence Ceremony

Leonard Manchester of this town and Miss Marcella Marlowe of Providence were married Tuesday afternoon in Providence. Rev. Fr. Smith officiated at the ceremony at the bride’s home, with a reception at 57 Wood Street. The couple will reside at 57 Wood Street after a wedding trip to Boston.

Benefit Dance by U S S Dupont Crew at Naval Armory

The crew of the U S S Dupont will hold a dance in the Naval Armory next Monday evening June 10. Half of the proceeds go to the crew athletic fund and half to the Red Cross. Prof Donovan's Jazz Orchestra will furnish music.
