Mancini Resigns as Bristol Scout Band Director

Erasme Mancini resigns as assistant scoutmaster and director of the Bristol Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps after a little over two years in the role. He cites pressure of other duties. Under his leadership the band won four major prizes and one fourth prize at Springfield in 1931.

Tie Game Ends Narrowly in Ever Readys Defiance Clash

A large crowd watched the Ever Readys and Defiance battle to a 3-3 tie in seven innings before darkness halted play. Sousa and Gladue led Ever Readys with multihit contributions while D Ambrosia and Correia combined for strong pitching. The game will be replayed within a week.

Post Office Veteran Honored By Fellow Employees

Dennis J McCarty retired Wednesday after more than 30 years as a mail carrier in the local Post Office. A farewell party at Charles Duffy's home featured a bridge lamp presentation by Postmaster William Jo Connery and tributes from Assistant Postmaster William J McShane. A dinner, ice cream contest, and entertainment followed with Vernon Gray and James P Fay performing and TL. Frank Das as artist. The gathering included numerous officials and staff in attendance.

Kearney Post Notes Monthly American Legion Meeting

The regular monthly meeting of Kearney Post No 6 American Legion will be held in GAR Hall A report on observance plans for the unit’s seventh anniversary is expected. Glowing Memorial Day Tribute Honors War Dead

A Memorial Day parade in the town drew several hundred marchers from local military and patriotic groups despite threatening weather. The ceremony honored Civil War veterans Ezra Dixon Thomas Harkins and Zachary Taylor Clemence, with veterans from the Rhode Island Soldiers Home and numerous youth units participating.

Sponsors of New Industrial Project Discuss Finances With Town Council

Town leaders discussed attracting a manufacturing plant from an unnamed city. Sponsors seek several thousand dollars in private pledges to cover transfer costs while the town’s charter limits public loans. The industry would employ 175 to 200 workers and requires favorable financial terms for relocation. Cotton Ball Jury Named for Cotton Gown Contest at Bristol Casino

A jury of prominent Rhode Island and Massachusetts figures will judge the cotton gown contest at the Cotton Ball to be held at the Bristol Casino on June 8.
