Prudence Islanders Get Phones Saturday

Prudence Island will connect vocally with the mainland at 7 30 a m marking the first dial system and two undersea cables linking the island to the New England Telephone central office in town. Milton H Chase originator of the project with NET&T experts led the plan linking Pappasquash Point for the island's new telephone service.

Braves Invite Fathers and Sons to Night Game Event

The Boston Braves host a father and son night at Braves Field on Friday June 22 against the New York Giants. YMCA chapters from Massachusetts and Rhode Island coordinate, with admission set at 1.20 for fathers and 0.20 for sons 16 and under. Two Local Seamen Serv with Sixth Fleet in Mediterranean

Michael J. Rich seaman apprentice and William C. McCaw quartermaster second class, both residents of this town, are serving aboard Sixth Fleet ships in the Mediterranean. Rich serves on the USS McCombs a destroyer minesweeper while McCaw serves on the USS Samuel B. Roberts a destroyer. The Sixth Fleet ranks among the largest fleets afloat, second only to the Seventh Fleet aiding United Nations operations in Korea.

Two WAVES From Hawaii Sail To Navy Schools In U S

Anna R Kebrek SN and Ilene Pearson YN3, both WAVES, left Hawaii aboard the Mars to attend Navy schools on the mainland. Pearson heads to Little Rhody for the Naval School of Justice in Newport and will return to Hawaii after her course. Kebrek attends Hospital Corps School in San Diego for 20 weeks then awaits assignment to a U S Naval Hospital. Both wear the Hawaii Alpha List and were photographed before departure.

In Providence at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium a 200 attendee meeting signals expected recommendations to revise Rhode Island's constitution. Maetozo Leads Springfield College Baseball Team

Matthew G Maetozo of 50 Thompson Avenue captained the Springfield College varsity baseball team last season. Coach Archie Allen guided the Maroons to a strong campaign defeating RPI Connecticut AIC Trinity Rhode Island Providence Williams Amherst Yale New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Major Peter Radyenko, over sixty, attends Long Island University classes in history and philosophy while serving with the Civil Air Patrol and commuting from Plandome to Oyster Bay and Hicksville. His remarkable background spans British merchant marine service, China as a government adviser, and a later U S military career including the 244th Coast Artillery and Engineers units.

Retired Major Aids Army Camouflage and Education Plans

Major Radyenko, now retired, qualified for the G I education allotment of about 100 dollars a month through his Army Engineers district office work. An expert in camouflage, he helped develop luminous paint specifications and aims for four years of government funded study. He may settle into teaching in Puerto Rico.
