Minute Maids to Aid War Bond Drive in Bristol

Mrs F Reginald Dimond organizes a corps of young women named Minute Maids to support the sale of War Bonds and Stamps. They operate at the Pastime Theater each evening before performances and will add volunteers as needed to sustain home front effort during the war.

Surprise Blackout in Bristol Proves Largely Successful

Bristol conducted a surprise blackout Wednesday night with sirens hand operated due to a prior thundershower. A. A. Edmonds noted the siren failure, while civil defense personnel responded well with few violations reported as signals were tested from 9:30 pm to 10:40 pm.

Lt. Col. Harry E. Olsen of the U S Army Signal Corps praised the Bristol Council K of C for aiding U S Rubber Company recruiting. The letter notes churches and Rotarians coordinated a community project, with forty volunteers listed to help in securing workers for the war effort.

Bristol Records Drive Slow as Citizens Lag

Joseph P Quartaro, salvage committee chairman, laments weak participation in collecting old records for service men. Boxes placed in town factories crediting companies for help, as last year Bristol surpassed its quota. Concert at Colt Memorial School Opens Three-Event Series

Several hundred attended the first concert sponsored by the State Department of Education at the Colt Memorial High School building. The Bob Gray led band played classical and popular pieces with arrangements by James J Velleca. The next concert is set for Tuesday evening August 24.

Dimond Promoted to Captain at Tampa Base

John D Dimond III, U S Army, promoted from first lieutenant to captain at his Tampa Florida base where he serves as a radio engineering instructor. He is a 1933 Colt Memorial High School and 1938 Virginia Military Institute graduate who worked for Narragansett Electric before enlisting in 1941. The promotion coincided with the birth of a third daughter to Capt Dimond and his wife Helen Capron Dimond in a Tampa hospital.

Delina Mar chand and Louis Carvalho wed in Warren ceremony

Miss Mary Delina Marchand daughter of Mr and Mrs Wil fred Marchand Warren wed Louis Anthony Carvalho seaman first class US Navy son of Mrs Owen Carvalho at St John s Church Warren. Mrs Carvalho will live at 66 Mount Hope Avenue after a trip to New York.
