A Bristol effort to shelter refugee children seeks monthly pledges totaling 500 dollars to care for 25 youngsters at a cost of four dollars per week each. Excelsior Club Announces 40th Bristol County Open Dates

The Excelsior Tennis Club hosts the 40th Bristol County Open Championship under USLTA sanction from July 27 to 30. Men’s Singles begin July 27, Women’s Singles July 29, with junior events July 29 and 30. Prizes include a three year Perry Memorial for the Men’s title. Miss Margo Lee holds the Club Cup for the Women’s title in 1938 and 1939.

Brown Alumnae Club Meets With Miss Young

The Brown Alumnae Club of Bristol County met yesterday afternoon at the home of president Miss Charlotte Young. Guests included Brown Alumnae visiting in Bristol County. Attendees were Mrs Ralph Kinder, Mrs Bertha Wilcox, Mrs. Alice Bartlett, Miss Ida Herrmann, Miss Harriet Munro, Mrs. Anna Batley. Mrs. J Winthrop DeWolf spoke on her Africa experiences, displaying souvenirs. Refreshments were served in the garden by Hospitality Committee members Mrs Earl Hobson and Mrs Louis Covell.

Mount Carmel Feast Plans Advance in Bristol Parish

The Mount Carmel group finalizes events for the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel with a Friday 7:30 pm Triduum at the church, 8 to 11 pm band music on Bristol Common, and a Saturday schedule featuring a solemn high mass 10 am, Roma band concert, sports events, and illuminated grounds while parade is dropped due to European conditions. Rev. Joseph Poja is the principal speaker. chairman Raymond J. Cavallaro notes bombs’ possible use remains undetermined.

Fireworks May Be On Celebration Program

Bristol Common may see a pyrotechnic display at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel celebration Saturday if the Town Council approves tonight. The committee had planned a simple program but voted to end the event with a display, restricted to church related set pieces.

Hope Circle Weenie Roast at St Columban Seminars

Hope Circle Daughters of Isabella held an open air weenie roast last night at St Columban Seminars Bristol Narrows. The gathering featured games and singing as members discussed plans for the annual clambake outing and the August 19 meeting at Mrs Sara Sweeney’s Bristol Narrows summer home. Tickets for August 11 were handed out by Mrs Lena Ingram and Mrs Marie Vermette with refreshment duties assigned to Mrs Catherine Bottomley’s committee.

Funeral Service for Miss Isabelle M Wardwell

The Wardwell residence on Hope street hosted a Sunday funeral for Miss Isabelle M Wardwell who died Thursday in her 93rd year. Town officials and civic volunteers attended honoring a life devoted to philanthropy with ministers from local churches officiating and North Cemetery as the family plot. Bristol Drum Bugle Contest Set For Sunday Afternoon

More than twenty drum and bugle corps will report to Bristol for a Sunday event at Guiteras field. The parade starts 1 30 pm with contests at 2 pm under Rhode Island Fife Drum and Bugle rules. Scouts, officials, and local sponsors arrange the day. prizes will be shown in a downtown window.

The Children of Mary at St Elizabeth's Church held their annual outing Sunday at Roger Williams Park. Buses transported the group. Miss Emil y Furtado and Miss Mary Goulart led the program.
