Use of New Methods For Fire Outbreaks At Dump

The town adopts a new disposal method to curb dump fires. A 12 foot by 35 foot trench is filled then compacted with a bulldozer and covered with fill. Fire crews have responded to four outbreaks, including a recent blaze involving the town bulldozer. The council aims to have its own bulldozer ready by July 21.

Bristol Garden Club gathered at Mt Hope Farm the home of Mrs R F Haffenreffer III. Mrs Cage Haffenreffer demonstrated floral arrangements as members toured the hostess gardens and socialized. President Mrs Samuel Wardwell reported on the June State Federation session. The next meeting is July 26 at Mrs Carl Haffenreffer’s summer home in Little Compton.

Town approves $500000 sewage bond issue signing

The town marks the signing of a private sale bond issue for 500000 to finance a new sewage project. Bond council, Lucien Capone, and First National Bank of Boston attended. Bonds totaling 500 of 1000 each mature 1952 1971 with 2.5 percent annual interest payable semi annually.

Bristol charter group awaits attorney general opinion

Town Council to Pick Priority Roads for Surfacing

Members of the Town Council Public Works Committee and the highway surveyor will meet tomorrow at 3 p.m. to set priority for re surfacing town roads. The survey aims to decide which routes to resurface after budget cuts from 1951. The original request was 27106.32 for 40 roads, but only 16500 was approved. Northup notes some streets require more than seal coating and some will need rebuilding and resurfacing.
