Bristol Train of Artillery 175th Anniversary Tonight

The Bristol Train of Artillery marks 175 years with a 7 30 dinner dance at the White Rail Riding Club. Capt Gordon L Fleming says Governor and local officials will attend along with the town council president and state legislators. The charter dates to February 12 1776 and the unit served in the War of 1812 and the Civil War. The Governor attends as Captain General of the State Militia.

Little League Officers Set Plans for Area Playoffs

Little League officials met Friday to choose a local team for the playoffs and to obtain written approvals and birth certificates from the 14 chosen players. Roger W Pigeon urged parent responses by July 12 to allow roster submission to national headquarters.

Silver Star Awarded to Corporal Medeiros in Korea

Major General Oliver P. Smith announces Corporal Joseph R. Medeiros USMC received the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry at Hagaru Ri Korea on the night of 30 November 1950. He later became a sergeant after heroically destroying two enemy machine guns while serving as rocket section leader.

Joseph M. Edmonds 67 of Sunnyside avenue died Thursday in Fall River's Truesdale hospital. A 9 15 a m funeral from Charles M Connery Funeral Home was followed by a 10 a m Requiem Mass at St Marys Church. Defiance Wins First Leg Of State Title

The Defiance Engine and Hose Co. won the first leg of the 1951 water battle championship with a 25 second victory over Geneva Fire Company. Led by coach John Francis the Defiance squad included Angelo Andrade Charles Andrade Jim Almeida and Daniel Francis with two more run-offs to decide the title, next at Geneva on July 29.

Dr. Samuel D. Clark, former Town Council president, defended the administration against charges of concealing dump fire reports. He cited a single dump fire last fall costing $300 and disputed Henry F. Serbst’s claim that fires occurred before taking office. Four fires in two months cost $908.96 to extinguish, with about $800 needed to repair a bulldozer burned while fighting the last blaze.
