Italian Feast to Honor Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Local Italians prepare for a two day celebration in town honoring Our Lady of Mount Carmel with a 6 AM aerial bomb salute Friday, a 7:30 PM parade and band concert on the common, a Saturday high mass at 10 AM, street processions, and an afternoon ball game and band performances. The event features the Colonial Band, Portuguese American and Maria Marino societies, and a pyrotechnics display at 10:30 PM on Bay View avenue.

Mass layoff hits Keds division workers at National India Rubber

Nearly 300 employees of the Keds division were told their jobs end when the department opens on Aug 1 as the shoe division closes Friday night. Company officials seek reassignments for affected workers. The wire division will close for two weeks this Friday.

Open Regatta Planned by Bristol Yacht Club July 23

The Bristol Yacht Club schedules an open regatta on Saturday July 23 with 10 classes including Star and Fish. Prizes include a cup in each class with three or more boats and the Tilden Thurber trophy also contested. Courses cover about 13% to 9% nautical miles from the club line to various buoys and back. Three School Teachers Resign Amid Board Meeting Action
