Surveyor Warns of Peat Under Washington Street Reconstruction
Highway Surveyor James T Connors reports to the Town Council on the Washington street widening from High to Hope. He notes a soft peat layer at the westerly end that could cause spring trouble, and says deeper excavation and gravel fill would help, but is unaffordable with current funds. He urges planning in any future sidewalk appropriation for possible reconstruction.
