Budget row questions Bristol police pay and staffing
In a letter to the editor of the Bristol Phoenix dated March 15 1932 a reader criticizes the Budget Commission for not implementing its recommendations. The piece argues the police chief should earn less and that eight officers plus a dedicated fire safety officer at the Pastime Theatre are needed. It urges residents to voice opinions and hold officials accountable.

Ant Stops Train by Stopping Signal Mechanism
A single ant halted a southbound Louisville and Nashville passenger train by interfering with the semaphore circuit. The ant bridged contacts near the signal mechanism, cutting power to the blocking device and causing the signal to show stop automatically. The incident, noted in Railway Age, highlights insect ingenuity and the fragility of early interlocking systems.
