Frank L. Doran Named Outstanding Citizen
Frank L. Doran was honored as Bristol’s Outstanding Citizen at the 95th Bristol YMCA annual meeting. Roswell S. Bostorth presented the plaque after dinner, with Charles F. Dimond noted as the town’s second oldest citizen. Doran, a longtime local worker and budget committee member since 1933, formerly held roles at New Haven Railroad and other firms.

They discussed RSL’s takeover of the John Brown House as headquarters and experiences of similar societies in New York. They urged that a society benefit from owning its own headquarters to boost member cooperation. Mrs Frank L Martin and Miss Louise H DeWolf served hot coffee after the tour.

Mary Jane Vorro of Bristol High School is named 1959 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow after top score on a 50 minute homemaking exam. She earns a Josten pin and competes for state and All American titles with a $1,500 college scholarship and an educational trip to major cities. The state winner’s school gets Britannica sets, runner ups receive $500 and the All American winner is announced April 10 in Minneapolis at the American Table Dinner.

Kingsmen To Collect Again
The Kingsmen Bugle and Drum Corps held another townwide waste paper collection last Sunday. Some residents forgot the date or failed to place paper before trucks passed. The drive continues through the week with drop-off outside Boy Scout building day or night, or a postcard or phone call will summon a pickup.
