Blood Bank Drive Sunday At Franklin Street Post

Twenty people lined up to donate blood this Sunday at the Keiney Post Home on Franklin Street between 10 am and 2 pm. John J. Sylvia reports last year the post donated 32 pints. 68 pints were donated Wednesday. This year the post has donated 7 pints and used 3. The Legion will display its bloodmobile at the post home on Sutay, inviting townspeople to inspect it while a hot meal is served. The committee invites all ages over 71 to attend.

Brown Univ Offers Land To Town For School Site

Brown University offered Bristol a parcel on the west side of Metacom Ave deeded to it by the Haffenreffer family for a school site. The 31 acre tract lies north of Mt Hope Ave and south of Woodlawn Ave with Metacom Ave on the east. A $25,000 design and planning measure was planned for the town meeting.

John Ushier Jr 96th Birthday Celebrated on Farm

John Ushier Jr of 1240 Hope Street famed as the town’s oldest resident turns 96 tomorrow. He tends his hens daily on the farm he has occupied for four decades and remains spry with a twinkle in his eye, reading each evening. He belongs to the Odd Fellows for fifty years and recently stopped active work with the DeFiance Fire Co. Eldena Beals and Eliza Léger are his daughters, with four sons and 16 grandchildren plus 7 great grandchildren in the family. The Phoenix staff and town extend birthday wishes.

Local Bristol Companies to Exhibit at New York Boat Show

Three Bristol County industries will display at the New York Boat Show January 16 through 25 at the Coliseum. Pearson Plastic Corp of Bristol Anchorage Inc and Thurston Gails Inc of Warren will showcase in various categories. The show is among the largest in the nation with two floors and thousands of boating enthusiasts attending yearly.

The Highway Dept. has been busy checking street signs this week and asks residents to report any signs needing replacement. Call CL 3-6632 to notify the department and they will address the situation.

Series Of Breaks Continues Police Report Two More

The Lincoln Hall Club and J. T. O Connell Supply Co in town were robbed early yesterday. Frank Viera reported a 6 15 a.m. break in at the Lincoln Hall Club with a window entry and stolen cash after tool aided entries through the pool room and stock room. Patrolman Goglia found a broken south window, a box from a window sill, and ransacked drawers. At 7 35 a.m. Joseph Tierney of O Connell Supply Co reported entry through a pad lock or window slats, with tools stolen totaling 367 40 dollars. Power tools and boating department items were scattered and left behind.
