Local plants to switch to blackout dimout soon

Factory and Civilian Defense officials announced that industrial sites will dim out in the near future. Freeman leads the effort with plans for complete blackout at C. A. and U. S. Rubber departments to minimize window exposure and maintain production, with Herreshoff and Bristol Corp. already implementing dimouts.

Military Dance At The State Armory In Bristol

Final plans for the first military dance by Company G Rhode Island State Guard set for Saturday January 23 at the State Armory foot of Church street Bristol. Red Cross Appeals For More Nurses Aids

Providence Chapter of the American Red Cross seeks more nurses aids to support graduate nurses in caring for wounded service members. Rubinoff Concert Relocated to Colt High School

World famed violinist Rubinoff will perform at Colt Memorial High School instead of Guiteras Memorial. Rotary Club changed venue for safety, offering reserved and general admission tickets at Buffington's Pharmacy. A schoolchildren matinee is set for Monday February 8 afternoon.

Block System Set by Bristol Civilian Defense Council

The Bristol Council of Defense will administer the block system and Civilian War Service duties without appointing a separate administrator. James E. Sullivan will advise with B. W. Wall and Mrs Marguerite Stone as the group models after current air raid sectors. A coal depot in Bristol is planned with a one lot minimum purchase and Red Cross plans cover evacuation support in case of kerosene shortages.

Plans Made For Annual March Of Dimes Bristol Chair Leads Fund Drive

Day Nursery to Be State Project in Bristol Plan

The Day Nursery will become a state project under the State Department of Education with Bristol as a branch of the local school system. The town will be reimbursed for operating costs except heating and lighting, the latter costing about 153 dollars for heating and 25 dollars for lighting over six months. The nursery occupies the Tyfield School first floor and will use a staff and equipment absorbed from the WPA.

Lecture Series Starts Tuesday Evening at YMCA

Col Wellington Furlong, unable to attend the first session, will begin the six lecture series next Tuesday evening per Reginald Dimond, YMCA committee chair. Dimond touts Furlong’s wide credits from Who’s Who to a Pendleton bull riding title and his explorations and peace delegation work. The opening talk is titled The Casual Background of the World War 1914-18.

Committee named to study Warren transportation problem

Nelson Blount of Warren is chairman of a county wide survey committee for the Warren Rotary Club's campaign to resume Providence to Bristol train service. Members include town council presidents and town solicitors. the study will interview regular bus commuters to gauge numbers travel hours and train versus bus preference. The panel was appointed by John Higgins after a Rotary meeting with town representatives and Roscoe C. Anderson of the State Utilities Office.

Air raid sirens will sound every day at noon except Sunday. The practice signal is the All Clear with fluctuating long blasts for two minutes to test the system and familiarize the public with the siren alarm.
