Pierce of Kearney Post No. 6 American Legion urged a mass meeting of returned veterans to determine whether the $15 000 welcome home celebration should be spent or redirected toward a war memorial such as a veterans center museum or recreational project He noted Past Commander B W Wall proposed the gathering and said plans depend on veteran sentiment with some favoring a grand celebration and others a memorial fund The Kearney Post voted Friday to seek an additional 5 000 for the Welcome Home Fund Mainz Bristol history project consideration noted also by Pierce.
