Profiles detail multiple Bristol men with long civic records and business ties who favor a council manager charter. Included are relief director, police and fire department members, real estate and insurance operators, a U S Rubber Co. production manager, educators, veterans, and church members.
Michael A. Tamburro born in Bristol and Colt High School graduate served five years in the U S Coast Guard. He has worked as a rubber worker and is now field representative of the United Rubber Workers CIO. He favors council-manager government and proportional representation local voting.
In a long session the School Committee approved an annual public speaking contest sponsored by the Rotary Club each May. It includes a two man team debate from the high school and a declamation contest open to all students with prizes for speech and declamation winners. Judges are three men and two women chosen by Rotary. Norman Kerr granted mill.
No personal injuries. At 7 40 a m a skidding collision involving Alfonso Vallaro 23 Prospect Street Bristol and Peter Accardi 117 Metacom Avenue resulted in both cars towed from the scene. Another crash damaged cars owned by Henry Vergeau and John Borges at Franklin and Thames. A third mishap involved Roger Pigeon and R a Dube of Le USS McCardenport with Pigeon’s car rear ended as he turned into his driveway.
The Town Council weighed the Police Department budget with salary increases proposed to raise officers pay. chief from 80 to 100 and patrolmen from 62 to 66. The council deferred action after discussions with department heads.
The Carr Manufacturing Co. and Carr Fluflex Inc. will raise hourly wages by nine cents for about 260 employees after approval by the Wage Stabilization Board. The hike is retroactive to November 5, 1951, as announced by factory manager Joseph T. Brogden.
A New York State Button Society convention in New York drew hundreds of collectors. Ten thousand rare buttons filled exhibits at the Traphagen School of Fashion, with items from WW II to Revolutionary War pieces. Notable collectors include H A Van Buren of Brooklyn and Mrs Henry Dieckhoff of Brooklyn, among others, highlighting the hobby’s scholarly zeal and family charm.
